Leagues review 8 Weeks into the 2023 Season
Tuesday Vets
Div 1 Hill Crest A at the top with 5 wins closely followed by Ripponden A who have a game in hand, Hove Edge A & Akroydon A must pick up the pace in order to avoid relegation, there is a four-horse race for the averages which include Steve Livsey, Lydon Harris, Ronnie Harrison & Fred Rothwell who has not conceded a game with 7 wins.
Div 2 At the top is Northowram A 4 points ahead of Sowerby T & BC but have a game in hand, Hove Edge B & Bailiff Bridge with only 1 win need to find winning ways. Mark Simpson with only 21 points against him in his 3 game tops the table with a 14.00, Clive Harte, Muriel Guide & Barry Sugden in the following pack.
Div 3 Elland WM B well in front and have a game in hand against 2nd place Northowram B. New commers to the League is Clayton Vic Park A who I am sure with more match play will improve from the bottom spot. S Laycock heads the field in the averages followed by 3 players with a plus 8 Geffery Place, Russell Jowett & Geoff Beaumont.
Tuesday Eve
Div 1 Hill Crest A and Siddal A heading the pack both with 5 wins out of 6 matches, Clayton Victoria and Ripponden A need to gain more wins with only having 1 each to date to avoid the drop. The top 2 in the averages are from Asa Briggs Jordan Brown & Mark Hirst followed by 2 Siddal bowlers Martin Greenwood & Brendon Malone.
Div 2 Hove Edge A and West End A at the top with only 1 point between them, looks like they are the teams to watch as well as Hipperholme A only anther point behind. The relegating fight is on with Old Town & Elland WMC A trying to secure 2nd Div status. It’s a different story with averages Barry Nichol is top with all wins in his 5 games followed by team mate Damian Talbot both from Elland C&BC, Adrian Megson & Jon Robinson in 3rd & 4th.
Div 3 King Cross A are well in front of Mytholmroyd BC B who are the only team to have won all 6 matches in the League. King Cross B, Hill Crest B & Hipperholme B are in the Bottom 3 who will come out on top to stay in Div 3. Not surprisingly Peter O’Callaghan from King Cross has won all 6 games to date however he is in 2nd place to Mytholmroyd’s Laurie Dyer with Steve Livsey and Terry Jackson closely following.
Div 4 Impressive top spot to Bradshaw Park 4 points Infront and a game in hand against 2nd place Luddenden Foot B. The 2 bottom 2 I am sure will be fighting to climb up the league. Discounting the top 3 who have only completed 2 games, we have Nigel Scanlon and J Milnes with impressive double figures in the averages closely followed by Graham Smith.
Wednesday Eve
Div1 Elland WMC A & Mytholmroyd A were joint top on 57 points on week 7, however Elland have opened a 6-point lead on week 8 after a 10-2 win over Kingston A. The Bottom 2 have only won 1 match between them however I am sure they will be battling to secure Div 1 status next season. We have 4 players who have won all games which include Stuart King, Paul Turner, Neil Hargreaves & Graham Hickey all with above a plus 7 averages.
Div 2 Pellon A look like they are making a firm bid to be promoted to Div1 with a 20-point lead of 2nd placed Elland C&BC A who are closely followed by Hipperholme A. Newley promoted Denholme are in the bottom 2 with Ripponden A however Hove Edge need to step on the gas to avoid a double drop. Ignoring the players with only 1 game we have 3 players all who have won all games with Julie Best, Josh Talbot & Peter O’Callaghan all with plus 10 averages.
Div3 Outlane A are in top spot with Greenroyd A within a point but they have a game in hand so the title race is on. 6 points separate the bottom 6, this relegation battle is the one to watch. The top 20 averages are also proving that the winner here will be the most consistent throughout the season, the qualifying criteria of 15 games may prove vital.
Div 4 Kingston B looking likely winners due to been strengthened by the experienced players, with Oxenhope A in 2nd place 5 points behind them. Bottom of the div is Greenroyd B & Hipperholme B hopefully they will be able to put some wins together to climb up the league. Again, the Averages look like it will unfold later in the season due to players from higher divisions filling in. John Halliday, Pasqual Cestrone, Lorraine Douglas & Chris Walton all with plus 10 averages.
Thursday Vets
Div 1 Brighouse A are again front runners 5 points clear of newly promoted Pellon A, while last year’s runner ups Mytholmroyd A are 3rd from bottom with Hove Edge A & Hipperholme A. Dave Boden top of the averages along with Ronnie Wormald & Gordon Bradford and the chasing pack are not far behind.
Div 2 Elland WMC A have won all 7 matches to date with 43 points, 7 points ahead of Siddal Park A who will be wanting to get promoted having been relegated in 2022. Kingston A not having a match win in 6 are rock bottom but the 2nd relegation spot is between 4 other teams with only 3 points between them. John Williamson & David Culpan take the first 2 spots however Ian Archibald, ray Gledhill, David Helliwell, Brian Moroney, Chris Pant, Clive Harte & Martin Greenwood all have +8 averages.
Div 3 Akroydon A have a 9-point lead over 2nd placed Laurel Crescent, While Akroydon B have only won 1 match are 2nd bottom, with West End B look likely to be relegated on 11 points. The top 25 averages are also proving that the winner here will be the most consistent throughout the season, the qualifying criteria of 15 games may prove vital.
Div 4 Top place Hipperholme B closely followed by Crow Wood Park. The 2 bottom spots are occupied by Elland C&BC & Hove Edge C they have work to do in order to keep div 4 status. It’s getting difficult to pick a front runner in the averages again we will have to wait to see who will be the most consistent player.
Div 5 Outlane A are proving they are the one’s to catch with a 12 point advantage over 2nd placed Rastrick D, Cross Roads and Old Town are bottom but have to complete rearranged fixtures which should see them clime the table. Dave Marsh & Steve Lowther look like the ones to catch with the rest not having completed enough matches to evaluate who will win the averages.
Div 6 Close battle at the top with Halifax BC D & Akroydon C both on 37 points. Holmfield Park B & Laurel Crescent B are in bottom spots. Chris Linsey Dave Craven & David Franz all have above 10 Averages and will be battling to gain the winner’s spot.
4th April........Elland C&BC A withdrawn from Tuesday Vets Division 2
