The final rounds of the Halifax Association’s Men’s Pairs, sponsored by Richard Pilling were played out at Kingston on Wednesday, May 5th with the Elland C.A. & B.C pairing of James Senior and Stuart Carroll defeating Asa Briggs Stuart King and Andy Denton by 15-9 in the final.
Carrol and Senior made a strong start to their Trophy hunt, leading by 11-4 against Clive Harte and Phillip Binns before going on to win by 15-8. In their semi-final, against Paul Gill and Paul Kaye the scores were level at 3-3 before Gill and Kaye pulled away with a break
of seven to lead by 10-3. The Elland duo recovered to narrow
the gap to three chalks at 9-12 then ran out to snatch victory
by 15-12
.King and Denton enjoyed a comfortable 15-3 win in their
opening game against David and John Hamer and followed
up with a 15-2 semi-final victory over Nigel Parker and Adrian Megson.
In the final, Carroll and Senior were 1-2 down but seized the
initiative with a four at the fourth end and built on that to open up a 13-3 lead. King and Denton rallied to fight their way back into the game at 9–13 but were unable to sustain their effort as Carroll and Senior won the final two ends to win by 15-9.
