It was a glorious day for Cathy Ness and Brendan Malone, who triumphed in the Halifax over 50’s mixed pairs at Akroydon Vics today. They faced some tough opponents, but they never gave up and showed their skills and experience. In the first round, they beat Ian and Heather Smith by 15.7, a convincing victory that boosted their confidence. In the second round, they had a closer match with Julie Marsden and Brian Hildred, but they managed to pull off a 15.14 win in the end. The semi-final was another challenge, as they met Tracy Atkinson and Martin Greenwood, who put up a good fight. But Cathy and Brendan were unstoppable, and they won to 12 points. The final was the climax of the day, as they faced Simon Robinson and Christine Dunwell of Ripponden, who had also played very well throughout the tournament. It was a nail-biting game, with both teams giving their best. But Cathy and Brendan had the edge, and they clinched the title with a 15.7 win. They thanked Linda Stewart, who sponsored the event.
