At Elland CA&BC, the first running of the new ladies’ competitions coincided with the men’s events. Chloe Hirst from Hove Edge BC secured victory in the ladies’ handicap, triumphing over Becky Woodhead with a 21-20 win. Chloe impressively fought back from being 18-5 and 20-16 down in the final to claim the first Halifax Ladies Handicap title under the association banner.
In the men’s handicap, Ben delivered an exceptional performance by defeating Keith Hatzer with the same score of 21-20. Keith had been leading at 20-16, but Ben executed a remarkable comeback. In a pivotal moment, Ben ran the jack for two points, then bowled an 18-yard bowl. Keith responded by placing a bowl at the back of the jack, but Ben struck it and removed Keith’s bowl. The next end saw Ben yard short, while Keith was just a foot away. Ben’s subsequent play involved running the jack, resulting in a 20-20 tie. With the jack out and Ben’s bowl two feet to one side, Keith fell short. Ben’s final move, knocking in off Keith’s bowl, secured a front toucher and the win at 21-20.
Overall, it was a successful day for all participants. Special thanks to Becky, who organized her first competition as the ladies’ competition secretary! 🏆🌟
