John Hamer and Pam Robinson, won the Halifax Association’s Mixed Pairs at Elland C.A. & BC on Sunday. They defeated Martin Greenwood and Linda Stewart by 15- 11 in the final of the ‘Well Bowled’ sponsored event.
After falling behind by 0-3 in their opening game against Steve Richardson and Bev Clayton,Hamer and Robinson recovered to win by 15-7. A 15-8 victory over Gareth Swain and Karen Lund won them a semi-final against Tony and Katriona Bannister. Breaks of seven and five earned Hamer and Robinsom a 12-3 lead but the Bannisters fought back to within a point at 11-12 before Hamer and Robinson regained control to win by 15-13.
Greenwood and Stewart traied by 2-7 in the first game, against Brendan Malone and Cathie Ness but rallied to lead by 12-9. Tbe scores were level at 13 but it was Greenwood and Stewart who went through with a pair at the final end. A 15-4 result against Terry Ness and Madeleine Hildred followed by a semi-final victory by 15-6 over Daz Turnbull and Sandra Cooper secured a place in the final for Greenwood and Stewart.
In the final Greenwood and Stewart raced to a 8-1 lead. Hamer and Robinson recovered to reduce the gap to five chalks at 6-11 then finished with a flourish, running out to claim the title by 15-11.
