Elland WMC ‘B’ won the Halifax Association’s Total Active sponsored Ewart Lord Trophy at Akroydon Victoria on Friday with a 213-197 victory over Pellon ‘B’.
Elland started with a handicap advantage of seven and made an excellent start, claiming three of the opening four games. Phillip Binns. Led the way with his 21-9 against Peter Steele, followed by Bob Newham, who led Terry Jackson by 13-6 before going on to win by 21-16. Wayne Hudson, holding a narrow, early, 10-9, lead over Jimmy Biggins powered his way to a 221-12 win. Keith Barker was Pellon’s only winner from the first four game emerging from a close contest to snatch a 21-19 victory against Alan Broad.
Elland were 21 points ahead at this stage bur wins by Martin Dodd and Daniel Marlow brought Pellon back into the game. Dodd converted a 15=5 lead into a 21-10 victory against Aaron Bottomley while Marlow led Alan Whalley by 10-0 before eventually winning by 21-6 Clive Harte and Darren Parker set Elland back on course. Harte held a narrow 8-7 lead over Mark Bolton but surged ahead with a break of seven on his way to a 21-12 and Parker led from the start to Complete a 21-13 victory over Glen Normanton.
With two games remaining, Elland held a 22-point advantage and, although Pellon won both, it was not enough to affect the final outcome. Both games were close with Adrian Holmes recovering from an early 3-7 deficit to win by21-16 against Mark Simpson and David Agnew, who was behind by 12-16 and 17-19 finished strongly to scrape home by 21-20.
