The semi-finals and final of the Halifax League’s 4-Person knock-out, sponsored by PPL Windows were played at Hove Edge on Thursday with Mytholmroyd ‘A’ taking honours with a 83-61 victory over Luddendenfoot ‘A’ in the final.
Mytholmroyd faced Luddendenfoot ‘B’ in their semi-final which was notable for the fact that both sides included a father and son duo, all four won their games. Luddendenfoot John Halliday ran out from 14-20 against Danny Barker while his son, Ben also staged a recovery to win by 21-17 against Clive Austin after trailing by 13-16. It was Mytholmroyd’s Bannisters who had the better day, however Dad Tony winning by21-15 against John Butterworth and Kieran defeating Paul Wildsmith by 21-10 to secure a narrow 79-77victory for their side.
Luddendenfoot ‘A’s semi-final opponents were Hill Crest ‘A’. There was only on point difference in handicap, that being in Hill Crest’s favour. Luddendenfoot won three of the four games, although three went to the wire. Matt Briggs recovered from 13-17 to, snatch a 21-20 victory over Scott Haynes while Paul Turner trailed Phillip Holroyd by 16-19 before winning by 21-19. David Barnes claimed Hill Crest’s only success, hanging on to win by 21-19 having held a 20-10 lead against Johnny Robinson. It was Gareth Swain’s 21-10 against Linden Harris that ensured Luddendenfoot victory by 85-74.
In the final, the Bannisters both came from behind to win their games Tony fighting back from 9-10 against Johnny Robinson to run out with a break of 12 and win by 21-10 while Kieran, 6-11 down to Matt Briggs, went on to win by 21-14. Clive Austin completed a trio of wins for Mytholmroyd, finishing with a break of seven to win by21-13 against Gareth Swain. Paul Turner was Luddendenfoot sole winner by 21–19 against Danny Barker as Mytholmroyd clinched victory by 83-61.
