2022 Halifax League Review
An Epic and exciting 2022 Season
Call me Peter (not Ishmael), and as the Halifax league enters its final week after the trials and tribulations of the past few years, we have 4 leagues of 12 teams which has resulted in 22 games for all teams involved, which I may say every fixture has been completed so far which will equates to 660 matches for 1320 individuals, bearing in mind if we reduce to 8 person teams in the 3 top leagues then we would lose 132 matches for 264 individuals. 2022 showed only 15 walk overs during the season.
Approaching the Final week Cockroft Cup Div 1.
3 Teams are contesting the title Mytholmroyd A 156, Crossroads A 153, Elland A153. It could not be any closer, with Mytholmroyd A & Crossroads A away for the last game and Elland WMC A at home who would like to predict the final standings. The relegation battle is against Hove Edge and Clayton Victoria with just 1 point between them going into the final matches against Elland WMC and Crossroads respectively so it may be the fight at bottom may have the last word on who wins the division?
Webster Trophy Div 2.
This division title race was over a few weeks ago with Hill Crest A having bagged a place back in Division 1 with a very strong performance throughout. Kingston A after a slow start came very strong at the end to secure 2nd place. At the bottom it looks like Hipperholme A have avoided Relegation with only 5 points needed away at Greenroyd to ensure Division 2 status next season, however if Greenroyd do get all 12 points then they would stay up providing Savile don’t score more than 8 points away at Crossroads B.
Wilkinson Trophy Div 3
The League top spot has changed in the last few weeks with Elland C&BC taking over from Denholme who looked unbeatable towards the end but with a few unlikely results have found themselves in 2nd place. Elland C&BC have also faltered slightly in losing at home 4-8 to Bradshaw which will make the return leg away a nail-biter. Denholme at home to relegated Greenroyd B will want to maximise this advantage to try secure the title. The second relegation place is between Halifax BC B and Oxenhope A with 6 points advantage to Oxenhope it looks in favour of them who are home to Outlane BC A, while Halifax BC B have a home tie with West End B.
Malcolm Edmondson Div 4
With Division 4 having 12 clubs involved it made for a better season than that of the last few years with a full fixture list and also allowing it to be reduced to an 8 Person, which I hope helped the clubs struggling for team members the opportunity to enter a team. Northowram Park A have run away with the division, the contest between Allan Park A & Kingston B was tight but with Allan Park being 7 points ahead of them they should secure the 2nd promotion place
I know we will all be looking forward to the 2023 season
