The 76th Berry Hey charity handicap and a supplementary Berry Hey plate, started out with the qualifying rounds on weds and Thursday night, at hove edge bowling club, with first round losers going into the supplementary plate and qualifiers going into the main event on Sunday at 1pm at hove edge.
The main event of the berry hey was won by Simon Leeming with a 21.18 success in the final against Bailey Dawson of Akroydon Victoria. It was an epic final with quality bowling throughout. And very close throughout, 5. apiece, 8 apiece 10 apiece 15 a piece then Bailey took the lead at 17.15. Only for Bailey to lose his length and allowed Simon to take advantage and run out a 21.18 win.
The day started out for Simon with a hard game against Andrew Gallagher.
Andrew took a 9.2 lead only for Simon to inch his way back into it and hit the front at 15.14 and went on to win to 17.his semi-final win came against Brendan Malone Simon took a 15.5 lead, only for Malone to hit back to 15.12, then some great bowling pulled Simon away to a 21.13 result.
Bailey had 3 hard games too. a 21.18 win over Mick Walker, followed by a 21.19 game with Peter O’Callaghan, then falling short in the final to Simon.
The supplementary was won by Gordon Bradford of Greetland with a 21.18 success against local bowler Steve Rothwell of Hove Edge, another wonderful final with Rothwell taking a 10.3 lead only for Bradford to fight back and take a 12.10 lead. Bradford carried on into a 19.14 lead before Rothwell hit back to 18.19 before Bradford claimed the game.
Bradford started out with a bye, as opponent was ill, his semi-final game against Simon Robinson, Bradford was in command throughout winning to 16, before beating Rothwell in final.
